Water Pollution

Water is one of the most important resources on earth, it is essential to humans and the environment. Water covers about 70% of earth’s surface and makes up about 70% of our body mass. We rely on water to survive. Without water, we can not possibly live more than a couple of days.
Nowadays, as the technology improves and people starting to care less about the consequences that their actions bring, water pollution has become a bigger issue than it used to be. The causes of water pollution include sewage and waste water, industrial waste, oil pollution, Radioactive waste, marine dumping, and underground storage leakages. Water pollution endangers our lives. It might not cause harm to our body immediately but it can be harmful after long term exposure.
Tianjin is the third largest industrial city in China, it is severely impacted by water pollution. The industry is growing faster than ever, the pace of constructing urban drainage and wastewater treatments are far behind the developments and environmental requirements. People in Tianjin have been drinking polluted water for a long time without realizing that their health is in danger. The city government has introduced a Wastewater Improvement Project to help improve the city’s water condition. To prevent water pollution from getting worse, we should all take responsibility and work toward the same goal.

  1. Olivia introduced her topic of water pollution, which is a different topic than my take on global warming. Although they are different initially, both have large detrimental effects. The causes of global warming are very similar to those of water pollution. Her place of Tianjin, China was made very evident of the long term and short term effects of severe water pollution, and I really liked how she introduced actions taken to combat the issue. My place, North Carolina, also experiences negative effects of my environmental issue, even though it is across the globe. This fact shows that although different countries may not geographically be in close proximity, the entire world can be touched by environmental issues, so it's important that we all come together to try and help restore environmental sustainability.
